Nancy Hyde

Nancy Hyde was born May 22, 1809 in Winchenden, Worcester, Massachusetts, the third of the four children born to John Hyde and Abigail (Hyde) Hyde. Her parents were first cousing, both having Job and prudence Hyde as grandparents.

Nancy and her brother Elisha and sisters Abigail and Eliza grew up in the small town of Winchenden in central Massachusetts. Abigail died in 1818 at the age of eleven when Nancy was only eight years old, and her father died in 1826 when she was sixteen.

On May 5, 1831, Nancy married Charles Thomas Wetherby who was two years older than she. Then had ten children, of whom six would grow to adulthood. Nancy died September 6, 1849, three months after the death of her youngest child, Thomas.

Her eldest daughter, Eliza, wrot of her warm memories of her mother during their childhood in Cheshire County, New Hampshire.

Nancy is buried in the main cemetery in South Acworth, Sullivan county, New Hampshire with her baby. Her husband Charles married Martha Fixh in 1850, and two more of the youngest children died in the four years that followd. He must have been ready to move his family to the new settlement near Marietta, Ohio.

Two of nancy's children died soon after her: Baxter on March 6, 1851; and Julietta, on January 3, 1854. Mary Jane was married in June 1855 to Frank Chapin and died in August, 1855 in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Charles married Cornelia Chapin in 1856 and died in 1887. william married Jennie Lawrence in 1857 and died in 1926 in Adrian, Minnesota. Ellen was married in 1877 to Andrew Hanson.
