William Cornelius

In 1832, William Cornelius, the son of William and Elizabeth Rees Cornelius, and his wife, Rachel Williams Cornelius emigrated to the United States from Llansamlet, Glamorganshire, Wales, with their two young daughters, Ann Elizabeth and Martha Jane. The Corneliuses had been married on December 25, 1823. Two other children, William (born and died in 1826) and Hester (1827-1830) are buried in Llansamlet. William Cornelius was a stone mason in New York. He died at 190 17th Street on March 9, 1839 at the age of 48 years. It is not known where he is buried.

His wife, Rachel, the daughter of Lewis and Ann Williams, was born December 18, 1803 in Llangfelach, Wales and is thought to have returned to Wales to visit her family, and died while there, probably about 1868.

Ann Elizabeth Cornelius was born April 25, 1824, married William Beck on January 2, 1844 in New York. She died in Summit, New Jersey where both her sons, William and Theodore Lewis Beck resided.
