Marriage*17 April 1785John Cooder married Rachel Ellis, daughter of Samuel Ellis and Maria Brouwer, on 17 April 1785 at Christ Church (German Lutheran), Manhattan, New York Co., New York, proved by will of her father & 1 Apr 1800 NJ deed, plus letter 29 Oct 1988 from Judith Miner Hine Luedemann says that Harry Macy Jr (Assoc Ed) wrote that he has been transcribing the register of Christ Church (German Lutheran) Manhattan for publication in the Record. That he found the following marriage
"17 April 1785: After due Proclomation John Gooder widower and Rachel Fish widow, born Allis. Evidences (Witnesses) Mr. Christopher Eninger, Georg Reisser, etc."
Judith goes on to say that Harry also wrote that the NYG&B and the American Bible Society are cooperating on a project, and he found an old Ryerson Bible, which gave the dates of birth on some of George's children. The data will be published "next October", the issue in which Additions and Corrections are published annually. That entry was in Oct 1988 - vol 119 SLC 974.7 B2n. The only difference is that it has a footnote after "born Allis" then goes on to say "wits. Mr. Christopher" etc. this versus Evidences (Witnesses) above.
The footnote says "This is the previously undiscovered marriage of John Cooder and Rachel (Ellis) Fish, the bride being the daughter of Samuel Ellis of Ellis Island (Rec. 119:158).
