following sources:
The Woodstock Records say: "Old Mr Maturin Allard died July
27, 1737." Mrs L. H. Sigourney in "Legend of Oxford" says: "Two children
of M. Allard whose dwelling stood near the old mill site were in the woods
gathering nuts or berries when a company of Indians came before them and
took them away. It was not until after two or three days search that they
were found and returned to their home."* The Records of Oxford Mass** say: During
the summer of 1694 a daughter of Mr Allard on leaving her home in Oxford
accompanied by two younger children was murdered by roaving Indians and the
children were taken to Quebec.***".
