Jonathan Garland was a Farmer, Currier, & Tanner. He had a bark mill, currying shop, shoe shop, tan pits and dwelling house, all of which were standing about 1850, but have since been taken down and others built; shoemaking was continued until as late as 1872, by the family. He was Selectman of Hampton 1727, 1734, 1739, and 1776 at Hampton, Rockingham Co., New Hampshire.1
