Story*[John Note] "John Pool was a carpenter, and resided several years in Beverly,
whence he removed to Gloucester in 1700. While living in Beverly, he worked at
his trade with Richard Woodbury, who died 20 May 1690, on his return from the
expedition to Canada, and was buried in Boston, leaving a widow, who became
Pool's wife".
His second and third marriages were very short, and he had seven children
by his first wife, and two by his last wife.
The Pool family was instrumental in settling Rockport, and a good history is
found in "Town on Sandy Bay, a History of Rockport Massachusetts by Marshall
Swan 1980, and "History of the Town of Rockport" by Lemuel Gott 1888. From these
and other sources, we know that there are 6 volumes of "Pool Papers"; memoranda
of Ebenezer Pool, a great grandson.
"He was buried on his own land, on a spot now in the yard of Deacon Thomas
Giles; where his gravestone is still [1860] to be seen, bearing the following
inscription:.
Here lyes ye body of Mr John Pool, aged about 57 years. Decd May ye 10, 1727.
