964473 v.179 p.38 14 Sep 1870 Indenture btwn William Covell of Orange Co VA and Julius Demois of Borough of
Wilkes-Barre $750 beginning on Hazelton turnpike near Pike & Ross streets. 3820 sq ft.
.
964473 v.179 p.40 16 May 1874 Julius and Magareth "for a sufficient and valuable consideration we hereby assign
transfer and set over to Jacob Rittersbacher".
On these it says in margin "for second assignment see deed book 190 pg 309, and recording deed book 249 pg
155.
.
966527 v.249 p.155 16 May 1874 basically the same thing as v.179 p.40.
.
966553 v.300 p.584 25 Jul 1891 Fred G Smith and Charlotte Smith (or Schmidt) his wife, Julius A DeMois and
Margaretha DeMois his wife, all of Wilkes Barre to Manus McGinty of same place for $9000. Beginning at eastern
side of Washington St above Northampton in line of a public alley. Same conveyed by deed of Martin Song and
wife, recorded in v.49 p.124 to Jacob Rittersbacher under whose will duly probated and registered in the said county
the same became vested in the said Charlotte Smith and Margaretha DeMois together...
.
That one gave the first clue that Rittersbacher might be the maiden name of Margeret, and that Charlotte might be
her sister.
.
1728251 v.309 p.475 10 Apr 1892 Benjamin & Grace G Reynolds sold to Margaret DeMois for $2200. No indication
who she was. It's possible that your Margaret bought land by herself, but not likely since she was still married and a
married woman buying land without her husband was not the norm at that time.
.
1728422 v.343 p.241 2 Apr 1895 Arthur J & Ellen Rosengraut to Jennie L Rosengraut, Myrtle E DeMois and Walter
Rosengraut. $1040 - Guess that Myrtle is sibling to Jennie & Walter and they are children of Arthur & Ellen (or
siblings to Arthur). She will probably turn out to be Frederick's wife.
.
1728607 v.374 p.366 26 Jan 1898 Jacob & Cordelia Eckeurode to Frederick A DeMois $2000
.
v.400 p.599 1902.
v.403 p.559 1902.
v.416 p.129 1904.
These three are Fred and Myrtle et al but aren't at SLC so need to be sent for if this is wished to be pursued. Two
possibilities - 1) the et als have to do with someone unrelated, or 2) more likely, it has to do with the dispensation of
Julius land (since he died prior to 1900 census), and the et al are his siblings.
