Birth*1748 Anna Asbury was born 1748 at Stafford Co., Virgnia, year per tombstone. She is not in the Overwharton Parish register as are the rest of her siblings. Asbury book says she's daughter of George and Hannah, but offers no proof. Why would she be the only one not in the parish register - what is proof of parentage?
A few Ancestry World Trees have the date 6 Oct 1747 in Stafford Co VA but that is her sister who died.2
She was the daughter of George Asbury and Hannah Hardwick-Hardage.1
Marriage*1773Anna Asbury married Rev. Benjamin Stone (RevWar Patriot), son of Thomas Stone and Mary Butler, in 1773 at Richmond, (Independent City), Virginia, a "deed from 1772 shows Benjamin and Anna were married and had a daughter Rhoda by then. So the claims he was married in 1773 is flat out wrong" (quoting Wm Stone)
Marriage could also be Culpeper Co VA per "Stone and Associated Families" (929.273 St71ma film 1750730 #14) so keep this in mind when looking for the marriage. However, SLC does not have any marriage records for that county prior to 1780.
Ancestry says they married 1767, but one paper on file with DAR says they maried 1773.3
Military*Anna Asbury was in the military: From the History of the Anna Asbury Stone chapter of DAR that is on page 96 of "Ohio state history of the Daughters of the American Revolution"; Greenfield, Ohio: Greenfield Print. & Pub. Co., c1928:
Anna Asbury Stone was the brave little Great-Great-Grandmother of the Regent. During the dark winter at Valley Forge, her three brothers and her husband were with Washington. News came to her home near Culpepper, Virginia, of the terrible suffering and want at Valley Forge, and Anna made up her mind to do what she could. Riding on her own horse, "Nelly," loaded with all she could carry of provisions, clothing, and blankets she set forth. It was no easy trip, two hundred and fifty miles, in the dead of winter, over roads infested by the enemy. When she reached York, Pennsylvania, then the seat of Government, she was given a packet of letters and asked to deliver it into General Washington's own hands for the letters revealed some of the plots against the Commander-in-Chief. The next day, as Anna went on her way, attempts were made to take the packet from her, but her fleet horse carried her safe into camp where she had the pleasure of placing the packet into Washingtons hands."
July 2004 - I am in the process of finding out if this story can be substantiated, and if so find out the sources to add Anna as a supplemental Patriot.
MovedTo*after 1783She and Rev. Benjamin Stone (RevWar Patriot) moved after 1783 to Hampshire Co., Virginia, lived in Fauquier County VA 1772-1783 then moved to Hampshire County.2
Death*1833Anna Asbury died in 1833 at Green Twnshp, Harrison Co., Ohio, year from tombstone, place assumed.
Burial*She was buried at Stone Cemetery row 2 grave 5, Green Twnshp, Harrison Co., Ohio, Steven Pearson [scpearson61@earthlink.net] provided photo of the memorial stone that was placed in the Cadiz Union Cemetery in Harrison County, Ohio in 1981 in honor of Rev.
