| Story* | [John L226 Note] 1796 deed referred to above has John Barcroft and Lydia his wife, of Amwell, sold to John Shapher of same place. 600 pounds in gold and silver coins for three parcels or lots in Amwell Township totalling 92 acres, 101 perches. There is an extensive and often confusing history of the buying and selling of these parcels ending with the purchase on 8 Apr 1794 by John Barcroft. . Misc notes. Hunterdon Co Hist Soc Index (SLC 1765390 #2) to records at the society shows no Barcroft or Burton records. Hunterdon Co Town Meetings (SLC 0807019+) says it's indexed, but it's not in the way we think of indexed - just by town and date. It seems to be mostly election results. Hunterdon Co Hist Soc Manuscript collection (index SLC 1769166) shows several things of no direct help. See seperate notes in Barcroft folder. Hunterdon Co Probate index (SLC 0818214) no Barcrofts. . Jefferson Co OH Grantee/grandor index for 1800-1869 gives us:. John Barcroft from Archibald Armstrong L-192 (not in file). John Bancroft to John F Leslie M-427,433 John & Elizabeth of Smithfield at Tanner & 4th, 25 Mar 1831. This is too late for Hannah's father, wrong county for her brother, so it may really be a BaNcroft instead of a mistake in spelling as first thought. . Jefferson Co OH Inventory of Estates (SLC 900056) no Barcrofts in index for volume 5 (1828-1841) Jefferson Co OH Record of Wills Bk 2 1821-1836 (SLC 900044) near as can tell, no John Barcroft in index which is in pretty bad shape.
