| CAUTION* | There is the following CAUTIONARY INFORMATION for Amey Billings: Dispelling a rumor - Source for her being Amey Billings are Austin's books. The Ancestry of thirty-three Rhode Islanders book does show her as being the daughter of Samuel Billings and Seaborn Tew, and it does show her to be the Amey Billings who married Thomas Ward. Since this is an ancestral chart, it does not show the marriage to Arnold Collins. According to many reliable sources "she was the granddaughter of Roger Williams, and was first married to Thomas Ward who died in 1689" so it was advisable to check out the descendants of Roger Williams. The same source shows all of the known grandchildren of Roger Williams. The 2 sons of Roger Williams were lastborn and to young to be Amy's parents, and their children seem to be all accounted for. One daughter of Roger Williams died unmarried with no known issue. The youngest daughter married after Amy was born, and her children seem to be accounted for. The two oldest daughters married a Sayles and a Hart and neither had a daughter named Amy. The same source shows how the rumor might have started. Amy Billings and Thomas Ward had a son Richard Ward who was the Governor of RI. His wife (Mary Tillinghast) was the great granddaughter of Roger Williams. (Mary's mother Isabel Sayles, her mother Mary Williams, her father Roger Williams). Also, Amey's mother Seaborn Tew has a sister Elnathan who married Thomas Harris. Thomas Harris' father Thomas came to New England with his brother William, and Roger Williams, in the ship Lion (or Lyon) (http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Bluffs/2806/aqwn39.htm. So, there IS interaction between Seaborn's sister's fatherinlaw and Roger Williams, as well as the forementioned daughterinlaw's descendancy. It is easy to see how the various relationships got corrupted the the years.2,1 | |
