| To-Do | Lineages not worked on this line. Most info is from Howard Bullis with nothing on Deborah, so it's virgin territory for researching Keep in mind the Gordon Remington info on Husted when working here. There is a Charity Bush who m.William Smith - right era to be parental candidates for her AFN: 3GLJ-TF (Document 28 from SLC99 trip) Work on proving this info If Deborah Smith proves to be the daughter of Benjamin Smith and Hannah Husted, then the Husted ancestry is carried back in "The Colonial Ancestry of The Family of John Green Briggs, and Isabell Gibbs DeGroff" by Harry Tallmadge Briggs of Poughkeepsie NY, and John Greene Briggs of West Babylon NY (no date) on page 142. Volume 8 #1, (Jan-Mar 1999) page 7 of the Great Migration Newsletter has the following in "Recent Literature": Gordon L Remington, "Rebecca Revisited: The Unidentified Wives of Angell(2) Husted and Jonathan (2) Reynolds of Greenwich, CT," The American genealogist 73 (1998): 201-6. Remington argues convincingly that Rebecca, the widow of Angell Husted, was Angell's second wife, that she had earlier been wife of Jonathan Reynolds, that she was not mother of any of Angell's children, and that she was not Rebecca Sherwood. IMPORTANT NOTE: Deborah Smith's ancestry is found in the Ancestral File and has been printed out for several generations. This can be referred to for now but it is not being entered until further research verifies the accuracy of the information. Deborah's AFN # is 3GLJ-VL. One Greenwich CT Smith family is found in Ye Historie of Ye Town of Greenwich County of Fairfield and State of Connecticut by Spence Meed, 1911, page 654. It's unknown at this point if/how they are connected. It needs further research. | |

| Burial* | She was buried at Dellwood Cemetery, Manchester, Bennington Co., Vermont, Tombstone says Deborough Purdy Died Juy 23, 1804 AE 78 yrs. 6mos VT Hist Soc Proceedings says: "Ninety-three walked in the procession as mourners at the burial of the wife of Benjamin Purdy" The double tombstone for Benjamin and Deborah are in the neatly kept Dellwood Cemetery, which makes the paragraph in the Bigelow/Otis book confusing as it indicates a different cemetery. However, the proof is in the photo, which was taken at Dellwood. The Bigelow/Otis book says: The Purdy family cemetery, located in the south part of Manchester in the area once called "Purdyville" and now called "Purdy Hill," is no longer recognizable. It is fortunate that an earlier historian copied the headstones. The few remaining lie flat in the ground among weeds just north of the stone wall bordering the "Three Brooks" property on the easter edge of U.S. Rte. 7. Buried here were: "Benjamin Purdy, 1719-1808; Deborah Purdy his wife, 1726-1804; ..."2,3 | |
