MovedTo*1766Benjamin Purdy (RevWar Patriot) and Deborah Smith moved in 1766 to Manchester, Bennington Co., Vermont, "There were a large number who must have settled the next year, Benjamin Purdy..." also "Benjamin Purdy ... as son as the second year of the settlement of the town, moved on the 100 acre lot number seven now owned by George Purdy, coming from Nine partners with the first settlers." Nine Partners is described on pg 149 as being Amenia, Dutchess County, NY.1

Burial*He was buried at Dellwood Cemetery, Manchester, Bennington Co., Vermont, Tombstone says Benjamin Purdy Died Nov. 28, 1808 AE 80 yrs. 11 mo.
     The double tombstone for Benjamin and Deborah are in the neatly kept Dellwood Cemetery, which makes the paragraph in the Bigelow/Otis book confusing as it indicates a different cemetery. However, the proof is in the photo, which was taken at Dellwood. The Bigelow/Otis book says:
     The Purdy family cemetery, located in the south part of Manchester in the area once called "Purdyville" and now called "Purdy Hill," is no longer recognizable. It is fortunate that an earlier historian copied the headstones. The few remaining lie flat in the ground among weeds just north of the stone wall bordering the "Three Brooks" property on the easter edge of U.S. Rte. 7. Buried here were: "Benjamin Purdy, 1719-1808; Deborah Purdy his wife, 1726-1804; ..."2
