| Obituary | 17 March 2012 | His obituary was on 17 March 2012 at Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., California, Lowe, John Grant July 12, 1920 - March 12, 2012 John Grant Lowe, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died in Encinitas, California, on March 12, 2012, at age 91. Born in Hemet, California, Mr. Lowe grew up in Huntington Park, and lived and worked in the Los Angeles area for nearly 60 years. A 1943 graduate in merchandising of the University of Southern California, Lowe began a 42-year career with Sears Roebuck & Company in 1937. He moved into his first management position following his graduation from USC and WWII service with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific. He married Patricia Mae Cutshall in 1946, with whom he had daughters Gayle Ann, Janet Elaine and Diana Carol. The family moved to Downey in 1953. In 1956, Lowe was named manager of the Los Angeles-Vermont Sears store and later served as manager of the Inglewood and Torrance stores. He was general manager of stores in the Los Angeles-Orange County area from 1962 until his election as territorial vice president in 1967. He served as Executive Vice President and Director of Sears until his retirement in 1979. In 1969, Lowe married Linda Barraclough, and they lived in Pasadena and Pauma Valley until relocating to La Costa Glen in Carlsbad in 2008. Active in the civic and business affairs of the Los Angeles community, Lowe served on the board of directors of the Better Business Bureau, Junior Achievement of Los Angeles County, Metropolitan Los Angeles YMCA, and Boy Scouts of America. He was also a dedicated Rotarian. Mr. Lowe was a member of USC's Commerce Associates, and was given the Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award of USC's School of Business Administration in 1968. Proudly appointed to the Sears Board of Directors in 1968, Mr. Lowe also served as director of Allstate Insurance companies, Homart Development, Crocker Bank, Bekins, and California Sports Incorporated. Following a brief appointment as executive vice president of Sears' Midwest Territory, Mr. and Mrs. Lowe settled in Pauma Valley and enjoyed almost 30 years of traveling throughout the world and playing golf on the world-class Pauma Valley Country Club course. In addition to his passions for family, Sears, travel and golf, Mr. Lowe was an all-around sports enthusiast and consummate Dodgers fan. Preceded in death by daughter Janet Lowe in August 2011, Lowe is survived by Linda, his wife of 42 years, daughters Gayle Kindall, Diana Lowe and Christine Westwater, son Gary Barraclough, grandchildren Marcie Lukacs, Cindy Quinones, John Grant Edgett (Lowe's namesake), Laura Babcock and Angela Janes, and 10 great-grandchildren.
