| Source* | Source(s): According to the DAR Patriot Index, John Heagan, born 1760 and died 2 Feb 1830, married Betsey Stinson. He was a private in a Massachusetts unit. After John's death, Elizabeth (Betsey) Heagan applied for a pension based on her husband's service. The pension application stated that John had served under Captain John Hinkley of Georgetown and was stationed at the mouth of the Kennebec River. An extract from the family Bible was included, stating that John Heagan and Elizabeth Stinson were married in Jun 1783 and John was drowned in the Marsh River 2 Feb 1830, age 70. This would place his birth about the year 1760. Elizabeth further deposed that they were residents of Georgetown until April 1785 when they removed to Frankfurt on the Penobscot River. In Nov 1795 the family removed to Prospect, Maine in Waldo County. There can be little doubt that this John Heagan was another son of Thomas, previously unidentified. Included in the pension papers was a deposition sworn to by your ancestor Richard Heagan stating that he was John Heagan's brother. The document, dated 20 Apr 1857, states that Richard had turned 81 years old the previous February. He also said he was born, brought up, and resided in Georgetown most of his life.1 | |
