| Deed* | 1706 | In 1706 at Newport, Newport Co., Rhode Island: A deed was executed from Jonathan Barney for property extending 40 ft on what is now Spring St and 85 ft along Barney St on which a church building could be erected. the deed was made out to Arnold Collins, a goldsmith and a member of the congregation at a cost of 21 pounds, 6 shillings and 8 pence current passable money at 8 shillings per ounce silver. On this lot a meeting house about 17 ft by 26 ft was erected.4 |

| Deed | 1712 | In 1712 at Newport, Newport Co., Rhode Island: According to the deed records of 1712, Arnold Collins on behalf of the church sold a house and lot from the original purchase (see 1706 & 1708 deed entries) on the corner of Spring and Barney St to Joseph Bennett for 100 pouns. Within that document there is the record of an exclusion from the deed of sale "for ever hereinafter the House called and known by ye name of ye Seventh Day baptist Meeting house and Land whereon the same is now erected and built." It granted passage around the building for "mending and repairing" as well as protecting the windows from shading or dorkenting by Joseph Bennett or his heirs.4 |

Fortunately, The Rhode Island Genealogical Register v.8 #1 (SLC 974.5 D2ri) pg 313 has an abstract which reads: Collins, Arnold, of Ne. Will proved 4 Aug 1735, pg 52-253. Mentions: [Possible sons:] To ____ ______ Collins and his heirs. Daughters Mary Wilcox wife of Jeremiah Wilcox, Sarah Bliss wife of Josias Bliss, Elizabeth Wickham, and unnamed daughter mother of grandson Arnold Belcher. Grandson Arnold Belcher. Witn: Sion Arnold, Jonathan Weeded, Josias Lyndon (the unnamed mother would be Sarah, and Arnold her son by first marriage). |
