I give unto my son Benjamin ... I give unto my son Edward... I give to my daughter Phobe... I give unto my dear and loving wife Sarah... I will that if the child my wife now is with should prove to be a boy that... the unborn turned out to be Arnold
(In Lineages Report #10 ) are copies of several 3x5 cards that seem to be an index of various court items. Benjamin was involved in many records (he was a Shipwright); land, mortgages, lawsuits etc. and his will is also referenced, though not copied. The will reference card says:
T.C.III 65 Belcher, Benjamin, Will, Newport Shipwright. Dated Ap 14, 1716 proved May 7, 1716, Executors, father, Arnold Collins [actually father in law], and brother John Beers. 68 Inventory taken Ap 26, 1716. T.C.V. 6 Accounty Rendered May 14, 1719. A guardianship record mentions a Benjamin, son of Benjamin of Newport, "to Uncle John Beere, Dec'd, 1718. which indicates he had a son. And, is Beere a middle name or the name of a brother *in-law*?
The RI Gen Register v.3 #2 (Oct 1980, SLC 974.5 D2ri) page 184 has a similar extract though it says "Mentions: Father Arnold Cole. Brother John Beers".
T.C. stands for Town Council records and they can be found on SLC films 944997 (will & guardianship) and 944998 (account). The handwriting in the will is quite good. The problem with it is that it is filmed in negative, and the lighting is "off" making the entire thing difficult to read. From what can be read, the will reference card seems to be an accurate summation.
