Nehemiah Hart was in the military: 1778 Not eligible for DAR - History of Suffolk County, New York, 1882: Nehemiah served in Captain Platt's Company, under Colonel Josiah Smith in 1776 as a Private in the First Suffolk County Regiment of Minutemen. However, according to DAR, he also appeared on Gov Wm Tryon's "A 1778 List of Persons in Suffolk Co, LI, NY" This is a list of persons that in Oct of 1778 signed an "oath of allegiance and peaceable behavior" to his Majesty King George the third. Unfortunatly, that negates any service prior to that date.4
